The latest issue of our monthly newsletter has just been published. The December eDigest brings you a recap of the highlights of #Coopconference17, an in-depth interview with Ariel Guarco, the newly elected president of the International Co-operative Alliance and an analysis of the recently published United Nations Secretary General report, which highlights the potential of co-operatives in helping to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, among others.
This month’s newsletter includes a special section focused on the Alliance’s Global Conference and General Assembly, which took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, last month. Learn more about the Alliance’s new board, the two motions adopted at the General Assembly and some of the main themes explored at the Global Conference. A session led by CICOPA looked at the future of youth and the role of co-ops in the industry and services in securing it. Another session examined how co-ops contributed to promoting gender equality.
In the general news section you can read about the latest studies and campaigns carried out by the Alliance’s European regional office. The Americas region is calling for putting an end to violence against women and girls. In Tunisia the co-op model is helping women raise themselves out of poverty by mixing hot sauce with business. In Paraguay credit co-operatives provide crucial financial services to half of the population. In Palestine a new co-operative law could help to strengthen the sector.
